ONE NIGHT OUT TOKYO
One Night Out is an annual, affordable event designed as both an educational and entertaining community-building experience, bringing together people of varied ages, backgrounds, and socioeconomic levels for a cultural evening at a general admission price of only $50.
Each year we celebrate a distinctive part of the world, honoring that culture, its rich history, special foods, and traditions, in a fun, engaging and memorable way. Because we live and work in a multi-cultural global society, concept opens people up to new ideas while giving them an opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new friends. And despite increases in event, food and facilities costs, it is our intention to keep the event affordable for budget-conscious residents and families who often cannot afford gala events, museum fundraisers and other high ticket cultural events or festivals. One Night Out offers a diverse, culturally enriching evening with dining, drinks, entertainment, and dancing - all for a $50 ticket.
The event is held on the first Saturday of October at the Palm Springs Air Museum. The inaugural event held in 2022, themed One Night Out Havana Nights, had 600+ attendees celebrating the language, music and creativity of Havana. Feedback from follow-up surveys indicated great value and attendees enjoyed the diversity of people attending, young, old, ethnicities, single, married. In 2023, the event was One Night Out Bollywood, authentically celebrating the colorful, festive East Indian culture with authentic Bollywood dance lessons and Indian foods, again honoring a rich culture many of our residents will never get to experience in their lives. The event again attracted 570 attendees and a large population from Valley’s Indian community where there to share in the culture with residents. They dressed in a beautiful array of traditional and authentic clothing. In 2024, the event theme was One Night Out Rio, and it was the most successful event to date.
Scope:
Scope would include fees for the Palm Springs Air Museum space rental and a contribution toward catering by Lulu, the official caterer of the Air Museum and hired entertainment, décor and design.
A small production team of 6-7 local unpaid volunteers contribute their time to manage the event, menu planning, all the graphics and marketing, all event operational logistics, ticket sales, checking-in, hiring music and entertainment, securing sponsors, table arrangements, environmental design and décor, and swag for sponsors and guests.
How the event/program will benefit the residents of the Coachella Valley.
Population:
The target population is a diverse mix of ages and backgrounds, as the intent is to bring together and celebrate diversity of cultures and people. The $50 ticket price is intentionally set low to be inclusive and accessible for individuals and families, young (21+) and old, who are on a budget yet want an experience they typically can’t afford.
Culturally Enriching:
This year’s program theme, Paris, is culturally enriching. It recreates a vibrant and beautiful experience from another part of the world where most residents will never have the opportunity to visit. Our past events were themed Havana, Bollywood and Rio, celebrating their rich history and iconic cultural stories.
Educational:
One Night Out highlights a graduate from the community who has demonstrated achievement and given back to others in Coachella Valley. The Alumni Spotlight Award is a prestigious award that honors a distinguished PSUSD alumnus. In 2022, Jeff Grubbe, former Chairman of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, and graduate of Palm Springs High School, was honored. In 2023 five-time world champion boxer and philanthropist Timothy Bradley, a graduate of Cathedral City High School graduate, was honored, and in 2024 Fred Bell Executive Director of the Palm Springs Air Museum was honored.
The Foundation for PSUSD also has a desire to educate residents on the importance of educating our 20,000 students and preparing them for the future. Whether it’s through volunteering, financial sponsorship, mentoring, hiring, or helping students get into college, our next generation needs support to ensure a vibrant community long-term.
